Event Description

Trini Style Carnival Parade (Saturday, August 27) - The Parade starts at 11:00 am and moves along Blue Hill Avenue and culminates in front of Franklin Park Zoo a distance of about 1.5 miles. Masqueraders gather about three hours prior to start of the parade on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Roxbury, MA. The food court is located in front of the Zoo, which features many different Caribbean and American cuisines. Arts and Crafts, music & video CDs, other items are also available.

Boston’s Trinidad Style carnival is celebrated in August, the weekend before Labor Day, and starts on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Roxbury, MA and travels about 1.2 miles to Franklin Park in Dorchester, MA. Judging of the bands typically takes place in front of the Franklin Park Zoo; the Village market place is located there.

Kiddies Carnival (Sunday, August 21) An event filled with fun for the family. The event takes place at White Stadium (450 Walnut Ave. Boston, MA) inside Franklin Park and has a seating capacity for about 5000 people. Performance includes Steel band music, dance, face painting and performance by several other young artists. Caribbean food and beverage available. - Kids under 12 and adults over 75 free are with nominal admission of $10. More details

King & Queen Show (Thursday, August 25) - The King & Queen Show is held at the Reggie Lewis Center, Boston. It features the larger costumes which are part of each band’s presentation for the season. A wonderful opportunity for the audience to experience a close-up view of the costumes. Entertainment is provided by Steel bands, local artists and an assortment of international Soca artists. Details

J'ouvert Parade (Saturday, August 27) -J'ouvert begins very early AM from Blue Hill Ave and Morton St. Mattapan and participants wear costumes of their own design. It is typically dark in terms of presentation and very humorous. J'ouvert is a large street party celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago and many of the other Caribbean islands where it typically starts before dawn and usually peaks a few hours after sunrise! Here in Boston the tradition continues, J’ouvert has been an integral part of the celebration for over ten years. More details.
